statement:
Much of my work is concerned with the complex relationship we have with images and how they mediate and inform our physical and visual experiences within nature and place. I am particularly interested in how we come to know a place and what elements contained in a site (or landscape) hold narrative, historical and cultural agency. I typically embrace a lyrical narrative or documentary approach in my work but am open to using a full-range of sequential and technical strategies, and make these choices to suit the specific concept and content of a given project.
My work often takes the form of photographic prints, photobooks, films, videos, pedagogical/research projects and site-specific projects.
research:
My work is inspired by many artists, photographers, writers, poets and filmmakers. Here’s a short list:
Michel-Rolph Trouillot | Chantal Akerman | Apichatpong Weerasethakul | Jonas Mekas | Wolfgang Tillmans | Gabriel Orozco | Yto Barrada | Ben Rivers | Alice Oswald | Frederic Gros | Dayanita Singh | Helen Mirra | Pico Iyer | Tina Chang | Uruphong Raksasad | Kevin Jerome Everson | Nicolás Pereda | Max Roach | Richard Long | Okwui Enwezor | Alan Sekula | Peter Hutton | Ephraim Asili | Mary Oliver | Moshin Hamid | Teju Cole | Abbas Kiarostami
